WGTE podcast creators Ally Day and Becca Monteleone were recognized for Telling It Our Way by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Toledo, Ohio (January 9, 2025) — Telling It Our Way, a WGTE Public Media podcast, is honored to receive the 2025 Media Award from the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD). Podcast creators Ally Day and Becca Monteleone and executive producer Chris Peiffer were recognized for Telling It Our Way.

Chris Peiffer, Voices Around Us® Podcast Manager and Senior Producer, works with hosts Ally Day and Becca Monteleone on the AAIDD 2025 winner. In this podcast, they host stories written and performed by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, tackling topics that range from romantic relationships to work life, childhood to grief. These are real stories from the complex, rich lives of real people.

Creators Becca Monteleone and Ally Day state, “It's an honor to receive this recognition from a national organization like AAIDD. The voices and stories of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities don't get heard enough. We're so grateful to have found such a supportive home with WGTE and ‘Voices Around Us’ to elevate these stories and storytellers. We can't wait to carry on this work.”

Executive Producer Chris Peiffer states, “Becca and Ally do a remarkable job. As their Producer, I’m amazed by the work they do with those that have intellectual and developmental disabilities. The stories are genuine. And they are stories everyone needs to hear.”

AAIDD is pleased to announce and congratulate those who have been selected to receive awards of the Association in 2025. Each year, AAIDD honors select individuals, organizations, or media who have made outstanding contributions to the field. A call for award nominations is issued in the fall of each year and awards are presented at the annual meeting of the Association.
