WGTE Public Media's Early Learning Service demonstrates to parents, caregivers, and educators how to use educational media, children's literature, and engaging activities to help prepare young children to begin school "Ready to Learn." We have been a leader in educational outreach and community engagement for the past 25 years.
In 1991, WGTE helped to pioneer PBS Kids' first educational outreach project by working with Fred Rogers and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to research the effectiveness of the Mister Rogers' Child Care Partnership, a precursor to the PBS Ready to Learn Service we have today. It combines quality television programming for children with follow-up activities to improve the reading and literacy skills of preschoolers, especially children from families with low incomes.
