Harriet Whitney Collins (1814 - 1903)

Harriet Whitney was Toledo's first woman school teacher and taught in one room, log building on the banks of Mud Creek, the site now occupied by the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. In 1941, Toledo dedicated the Harriet Whitney Vocational High School for Girls, the only Toledo Public high school named for a woman.
